Romauld Valot ‘Biosophiste’ Brouilly
His family come from Burgundy, he used to make wine there. He became disenchanted about the amount of chemicals used in the vineyards so move to Beaujolais. But not the part you may know.
He moved to the West, Beaujeu, and bought a property with 100 year old Gamay vines on granite soils (granite soils are the iconic soils of Fleurie and add to their fragrance). His vines sit at 500 metres above sea level, so probably the highest int he region and is located far away from any neighbours.
His farming is organic but taken even further. He uses teas and infusions made with local flora instead of Sulphur & Copper. He never ploughs and some parcels rarely prunes, instead trying to understand what his land is wanting to express.
The winemaking is all whole bunch fermented.
The Brouilly is classic Brouilly with an open savoury charm. Brouilly is always a cru to get your parents into the region, with its slightly less prominent aromas.
